A university decided to convert approximately 1,000 adjunct faculty from independent contractor status to full-time status. Since these individuals resided across the U.S., they needed to implement a Vertex Sales and Use Tax software application to coincide with the enrollment of these “new” employees in an extremely short timeframe.
Our consultant successfully navigated 3 different roles: subject matter expert, developer, and project manager. Even though the project encountered a number of unanticipated technical issues with PeopleSoft ERP, the consultant was able to successfully complete the project ensuring everything came together flawlessly at enrollment time.
Time savings resulted from avoiding the manual processing of sales and use tax returns required for each of the states the client had employees. Additional benefits included avoidance of potential fines and negative press that could have resulted from the inability to report its tax liabilities accurately and timely.
