Outage Manager - Unit Outage Analysis

Issue

A large Midwest retail power and gas company needed a way to monitor and analyze the health of power generation units for the executive level and plant management. The client wanted to determine the current daily, weekly and monthly available generation capacity versus curtailed units. They also wanted to analyze outage types and trends and how they impact financial and risk perspectives.

Solution

The MidDel consultant built a custom analysis engine that aggregated the net available capacity by ISO. The analysis engine calculated and displayed detailed outage information for each generation unit in the region. Financial and operations assumption scenarios were generated real time by decision makers.

Result

The new system provided plant management with meaningful information to make unit outage decisions. Executive decision makers also use built-in what-if scenario analysis tools for more cost effective unit outage planning.
