Our client needed to receive audio alerts based on readings from the OSIsoft PI real-time data. OSIsoft has a product that delivers notifications but not in audio format. The client wanted an alert as soon as a limit was exceeded in real-time delivered through audio so it would not be missed.
Our consultant selected a .Net solution, developing a desktop application that allowed each user to configure the tags to monitor their limits, wav file, and other parameters. The application utilized the OSIsoft PI SDK to communicate with the PI server and receive the latest values to compare against the set limits. Once a limit is exceeded, an audio file is played and a Windows toast notification provides visual display.
The new application provided the client a light-weight solution to monitoring data in real-time in a way that best fit their environment, which was critical to their position as energy traders.
