Oil Job Market Hasn’t Caught Fire yet as Drillers Wary of Recovery

Employment in the oil sector remains stagnant even with rising oil prices, most notably for engineering and science professionals. Less than 10% of jobs lost since 2014 have been recovered, most of those in the extraction fields. The slow recovery in jobs has been attributed to a reluctance to hire for fear of another collapse in oil prices and continued investment in automation such as robotics, data analysis, artificial intelligence and other technologies.
